Your wedding in Cartagena de Indias, an incredibly magical destination.
May, 2021 - Cartagena, Colombia
As a photographer I have had the opportunity to travel to different destinations around the world, yet I must confess that Colombia is one of my favorites. There I have not only been able to document magical love stories, but I have also been able to learn more in detail about the experiences you can enjoy if you are thinking of having your event in another place. So today I suggest you have your wedding in Cartagena de Indias, a spot with a charming vibe where you will surely love to say "I do”.

If you are considering getting married in a destination outside your city, Cartagena is a place that gathers incredible qualities to design a very cool and personalized experience around your wedding. The best thing about this destination is that, thanks to its location, you can enjoy beautiful beaches and, if you get married in the old city, then you will feel the colonial vibe of a walled city full of charming streets, incredible colors and an environment that can become the best spot for your wedding photos.
The energy of this place is spectacular, and that is why it has become a perfect option to celebrate an intimate event with many details that allow your guests to connect even more with your story. Just take a closer look at the classic balconies adorned with hundreds of colorful flowers and houses with contrasting hues. The brick roofs of the houses make a fantasy panorama that makes you feel as if you were in an alternate world.
Churches, street food stalls, music and handcrafted details make a perfect formula for your wedding to become an experience for the senses for both you and your guests. A perfect blend of romance and art everywhere.

The experience of a wedding in Cartagena
Best of all, of course, are the happenings you can add to personalize your wedding even more. My favorite is a boat ride that Boats4You has that takes you around the beaches of the destination in a very nice atmosphere. You can select the experience according to how your wedding will be and how many guests you will have, so you can make the ride as relaxing or as lively as you want. What is certain is that this is a very unique experience to break the ice, have spectacular photographs and have unimaginable memories of your wedding.
Adventure may mean taking a break to swim at the destination beaches or practice your water sports skills, only to have you and your guests end up lying on the sand and then at a local restaurant for food and fun the day before the wedding.
As for venues, you will surely find incredible options. Casa Pombo, for example, is one of the venues where I have had the opportunity to document weddings.
This mansion is located on Calle del Arzobispado and is a place that still has the original materials of its construction such as columns and stone arches, very much in the style of the sixteenth century. The spaces of this place are not only full of history, but also of an endless number of corners with textures, dreamy views, corridors to fall in love with, floors with geometric patterns and even pieces of furniture of the time for your getting ready session, for example. All accompanied by the contrasting tones of Cartagena.
Believe it or not, this is one of the oldest venues in the city and therefore has become one of the venues of choice for intimate weddings, with a more careful approach to the details and architectural inspiration of the place.
Casa Pestagua is another of the venues that I recommend
This boutique hotel is a gem if you plan to have your wedding in Cartagena, because its colonial architecture which is inspired by Moorish palaces makes it a very original spot. Fun fact, there they have used this for some Netflix shows.
Gardens, central patios, swimming pool, open spaces and very majestic corners are some of the characteristics of this venue. This venue can accommodate from 80 to 250 guests, so you will be able to take advantage of the rooms for all phases of the wedding. The best thing, of course, is that this hotel can also be the lodging venue for your guests, so you won't have any problems with transportation, travel times, etc.

The hall with its chess style floor is one of the key spots to take good pictures on the wedding day, although the reality is that the colors of this place, as well as the setting, the atmosphere and even the decoration make an incredible alliance so that the aesthetics of that great day is unique.
These two weddings were organized by Mahla, a wedding planner specializing in destination weddings. Her company, The Eventeur made the experience of both events even better.
And to finish your wedding experience in Cartagena, there is nothing better than Chivas Tour, the perfect excuse to enjoy the Colombian rumba and throw a party like no other. This happening is ideal to learn more about the nightlife vibe of the destination and end with a celebration in the streets of the place.
The tour can be done before or after the wedding to close those days of festivities and celebrations with a flourish.
The advantages of having your wedding in Cartagena:
After having witnessed some incredible weddings, here's why it's an incredible choice for the "I do's".”
Colombian food is delicious, so no matter when your wedding is, there will always be a good reason to pamper your palate.
Going for a walk along the walled streets is the best thing you can do. Cartagena has incredible spaces that no photograph can do justice to.
The mix of antique and tropical climate is the best way to create a winning experience at your wedding.
Here you don't feel like you're missing out on anything. You have a destination with fascinating beaches and streets full of color and people with a great vibe.
The happenings that you can include for your destination wedding are perfect for you and your guests to spend some unique days.
Old houses surprise you. The facades are beautiful, yes, but the interiors always have many details that you would never have imagined.
If you decide to have your wedding in Cartagena, it is best to think of an intimate event. Having a celebration with few guests will ensure that you will have quality time with everyone and that, in addition, you will be able to experience the vibe of one of the coolest destinations in the world.
Are you ready to get married in Colombia?
I will be happy to document that story.
